About the Artist: Lisa was raised amongst the beauty, peace and simplicity of Virginia's Eastern Shore. After graduating from Broadwater Academy and being nominated for Who's Who Among American High School Students in 1979-80, she attended the University of Virginia. Lisa received her BA from UVA in 1984.
A creative aspect has been woven through the fabric of her life from a very early age, be it needlework, making gingerbread houses, painting murals and designing sets for proms and plays, acting, antique hunting, and drawing and painting. Lisa entered her first work in a county fair over 20 years ago where she took a ribbon.
She started doing decorative painting in homes in about 1987. In the late 1990s, Lisa studied art under local artist Jane Larew. In 2001 she was inspired to paint a special stool that her father had built for her daughter's second birthday. Later that year that evolved into painting small decorative stools and birdhouses.
In 2003 - 2004 she designed her own home, with the help of the builder, and incorporated some interesting architectural features such as installing antique stained glass windows on interior walls and designing lighting to showcase them. Lisa located a beautiful unfinished hand-carved pine mantle, which she finished for the family room fireplace. Several of the stained glass light fixtures and ceiling fans in the house were also special finds that were brought into the building process. After the house was built, Lisa did decorative painting and murals throughout.
